CW: abusing, bullying

Mark had grown in a really loving family. He had always been some kind of a nerd and used to be bullied in high school. Many other students took advantage of the fact that Mark was always trying to see good in everyone, even if they was treating him bad, abusing even.There was a group of students in his class which chose him for their favorite victim. They found every way possible to bully him, mostly mentally but physically as well when no one would see it. He had bruises all over his thighs, chest and back but he didn't tell anyone about it. He just didn't want to worry others and he knew that if anyone told the teachers, the whole situation would've become even worse. Mark was forced to do homework for them and meet them before and after school to give it to them. These moments he dreaded the most.One time, he met a girl who seemed to love him. Even though they weren't going on dates, even though they weren't spending time together, even though they barely held hands, Mark didn't see it as something bad. He always believed the explanation "I'm not ready yet". He was helping her with her homework which turned out as another abusing. He learnt that it all was fake when he saw her with that group of bullies and overheard enough to know the truth. He broke up with her but it all just made things worse as the bullies were taking "revenge" on him for that.He went to college and was the best student at technical physics and astronomy. His family was very supportive and he had a lot of friends but no close ones.Shortly after graduating, he got a job in the government project whose objective was to find a new planet where people could create a colony. He started as an engineer assistant but he was promoted quickly and after a year he became the head engineer. He volunteered to be one of the crew members of the spaceship - it was a dream come true for him. Although, he didn't know if he'd ever come back. Space is a dangerous place after allNow, on board the Invincible II, he sometimes thinks about it. Will he ever see them again?
